The limits of mineralogical knowledge are discussed. The subjects beyond the competence of mineralogy are defined. The fundamental importance of definition of the boundaries between solid and liquid, crystalline and non-crystalline, crystalline (s.s.) and quasicrystalline matter and macro-and microindividuals of the mineral is reviewed.
